while the she-oaks sway

while the she-oaks sway, bending with the breeze,
the mynahs sing their immemorial song,
and raindrops pound the pebbles into sand:

so too may those little kings of sand-castles,
let their kingdoms crumble and feed the roots—
of the immeasurable forest.

there their ministers stand silent,
allowing those royal ears to perceive
the hymn that sounds within all things:
and the kings sing it themselves.
